The Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth's 2026 Rice Breaker is a compact Japan-U.S. business and community evening with actual programming between the introductions. It runs Wednesday, August 26, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Yujo Sushi, 12835 Preston Road, Suite 216 in North Dallas. The first half hour is networking and happy hour. Two short speaker blocks follow: financial wellness and planning for professionals, then a U.S. perspective on working with Japanese companies. The room reopens for conversation at 6:30. A $99 ticket includes the reception, presentations, sushi and seafood, Wagyu tastings, one beverage, tax, and gratuity.
JASDFW is a durable corridor host, not an event-listing brand. Founded in Dallas in 1970 and expanded by name to Fort Worth in 1995, the nonprofit builds Japanese-American ties through business, public-policy, education, culture, and exchange programs, and it belongs to the National Association of Japan-America Societies, the Washington-based network linking more than 35 local societies. That history gives Rice Breaker a wider purpose than one restaurant night. The host explicitly invites professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders who want to strengthen Japanese-American relationships, while the scheduled talk on working with Japanese companies gives newcomers a shared subject before the open reception. The society's fall calendar otherwise leans cultural, so this is its clearest business room of the window.
This is right for North Texas professionals who work with Japanese clients, employers, suppliers, or cultural organizations; founders exploring the corridor; and people who want a smaller entry into JASDFW than a gala or large festival. It is also a useful first room for a spouse or colleague who understands the business relationship but does not already know the local Japan network. Skip it if $99 feels steep for a two-hour evening, you need a formal buyer meeting, or you are looking for a technical trade seminar. The value is a hosted table and credible corridor introductions, not a full conference agenda.
Advance registration is required and seating is limited, so do not plan on paying at the restaurant door. The venue is on Preston Road north of Interstate 635, not in Downtown Dallas or Plano; build the Wednesday rush-hour drive into a 5:00 PM start. The official page names Tina Hoang and Meg O'Brien for financial wellness and Dave Yang, co-founder of PlayTCG, for the Japan-business discussion. It also uses Jonathan Angers in one schedule line, so rely on the final registration email for any speaker update rather than treating the website's naming mismatch as settled.
