CIE/USA-DFW's 2026 Annual Convention is a full Saturday for Chinese American engineers, technologists, students, and industry partners. It runs September 12 from 1:00 to 9:00 PM at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport Marriott, 8440 Freeport Parkway in Irving. The theme is Powering the Intelligent Future: AI infrastructure, innovation, and workforce transformation. The afternoon splits into a Career Development workshop from 1:00 to 2:45 and a Think Tank Forum from 3:00 to 4:45. Both daytime tracks are free with advance registration. A VIP reception from 5:00 to 6:00 is invitation only. The banquet from 6:00 to 9:00 is a separate $180 ticket with lion dance, youth talent, awards, and a keynote from AI entrepreneur Skip Howard.
The Chinese Institute of Engineers traces to 1917 in New York. CIE/USA reorganized as the U.S. federation in 1977, and the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter was founded in 1989 by Dr. Faa-Ching Wang, later registering as a Texas nonprofit. The chapter's stated work is technical exchange, professional networking, STEM awareness, and leadership development for Asian American engineers. That durability is why this convention matters more than a one-off AI meetup. Speakers span Diodes, Oncor, USAA, AT&T alumni, UTA, SMU, and local AI founders, so the room mixes corporate hiring, grid and network operators, and university research rather than only startup pitch culture.
This is right for early- and mid-career engineers who want free career and AI-infrastructure programming, students entering the DFW tech map, and senior operators who can use the banquet for denser relationship work. Chinese American professionals are the clearest community fit, but the daytime sessions are open with registration rather than closed to members only. Skip it if you only want a short mixer, if you cannot get to Irving on a Saturday afternoon, or if the paid banquet is your only interest and $180 is not worth the evening. The free workshop and forum are the practical entry; the banquet is the celebration and recognition layer.
Register separately for the free Career Workshop and Think Tank Forum on the official convention page, then buy the banquet ticket only if you want the evening program. The Marriott sits on Freeport Parkway near DFW Airport, not in Uptown or Legacy, so plan airport-corridor traffic and parking rather than a Downtown Dallas walk. Check-in begins at 12:30. Confirm room assignments in the confirmation email, and do not assume the VIP reception is open to banquet buyers. If you are choosing between this and a culture festival the same weekend, CIE is the professional engineering room.
