AAASE Biennial Summit and Fellow Induction

Hosted by Asian American Academy of Science and Engineering (AAASE)

When
November 7-8, 2026
Where
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MACambridge

The Asian American Academy of Science and Engineering holds its biennial summit and fellow induction on November 7 and 8, 2026 at MIT in Cambridge. The weekend centers on ten new fellows. The host page names Lip-Bu Tan, chief executive of Intel; Evelyn Wang, listed there as a vice president at MIT, whose research is thermal energy; and Gang Chen of MIT, whose work is nanoscale heat transfer and who is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Sciences. Others on the list include Selda Gunsel, chief technology officer at Shell, and S. Jack Hu, chancellor of UC Riverside. The page attaches a National Academy membership to eight of the ten. Named keynotes are promised separately. The fellow list is not the agenda.

AAASE's own description is a network for Asian American scientists and engineers, plus mentorship for people earlier in the field. This summit adds a mentor lunch for students and junior researchers, first come, first served. It also holds the final round of a high-school design competition for teams from the academy's Princeton and MIT summer programs, and legal and policy panels. A Kendall Square researcher can end up next to a postdoc and a summer-academy team. The page does not describe a recruiting floor.

This is right for STEM faculty, industry researchers, and graduate students who want the induction in the room, and for families of a team already in one of those summer programs. Skip it if NAAAP Boston's Thursday at Takeda is your only Cambridge day. Early-bird regular registration is $250 through October 18 and includes the lunch social. The same registration plus the award banquet is $400. Students, including high school, undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs, are $50 early bird, or $200 with the banquet. The banquet alone is $150.

Register on the AAASE event page before October 18 if you want the early-bird rate. Two Cambridge hotels are on that page: Boston Marriott Cambridge from $249 a night for a king, and Residence Inn by Marriott Boston Cambridge from $279 for a queen with a sofa bed. The page says room-block reservations need to be in by October 13, before the registration discount ends. The listing names MIT and not a building, so read the badge email for the room. After October 18 the page says standard rates apply, and it does not post those standard numbers.
